RN Electronics - EMC Testing Services

R&TTE Directive

How we can help?

At RN electronics we offer low cost third party test services to meet the safety objectives of the Low Voltage Directive. Furthermore we can provide sample copies of Declaration of conformity, and offer consultation and help in compiling technical files. We also offer Radio Testing services to meet the requirements of the R&TTE directive. We are a UKAS accredited laboratory for Radio testing, which ensures our reports are recognised internationally.

The European Parliament and Council Directive 1999/5/EC (R&TTE directive) defines the rules for the placing on the market and putting into service of Radio and Telecommunications Terminal equipment.

The easiest route to demonstrate compliance of equipment with the Directive is to have the equipment tested per the related Harmonized standards. For this directive harmonized standards are developed mostly by ETSI. Some safety and health standards are developed by CENELEC. These standards are developed upon a request from the European Commission and they enter to force when their references are published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).

How does this directive relate to safety?

The R&TTE requires all equipment within its scope to comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive regardless of its voltage range.

In short all equipment that might have fallen outside the scope of the Low Voltage directive because their operational voltage is less than 50 VAC or 75 VDC, have to comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage directive if they fall under scope of R&TTE directive.
