Award of 600 MHz Spectrum Band
Ofcom has outlined proposals that can be found here to create new, temporary high definition (HD) digital terrestrial TV (DTT) multiplexes, which would operate alongside wireless microphone users and devices using white-space technology.
The channels will use capacity created by the digital switchover, which successfully completed at the end of 2012. They will fit into one of the two frequency bands cleared for new uses, called the 600 MHz band. The other band, called the 800 MHz band, is currently being auctioned for new 4G mobile services.
The spectrum will be awarded to a single operator that will manage access to the multiplexes. Prospective operators are being asked to notify Ofcom if they intend to apply for the licence.
