Expanding spectrum access for mobile services in the 3.6 – 3.8 GHz band
Ofcom is today consulting on expanding spectrum access for mobile services in the 3.6 – 3.8 GHz band.
This band is considered a high priority band for future mobile use, due to the large amount of spectrum available and its potential suitability for the rollout of future mobile broadband / 5G services.
Part of the band is already authorised for electronic communications networks – which includes mobile and fixed communications – where spectrum access is coordinated with other current spectrum users.
At present, the band is used by point to point fixed links, for a range of applications, and also provides satellite services for space to Earth reception. Today’s document includes a discussion of the options available for Ofcom to extend mobile use in the band. Read more here.
