Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)
Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is an established method of providing last mile internet access to homes using wireless mobile network technology rather than fixed line broadband such as Fibre, Cable and DSL.
FWA can utilise 5G network technology, such as beam-forming and high-frequency mmWave (millimetre wave) spectrum devices, which provides a considerable performance increase to wireless broadband services. Even in areas that don’t have ready access to fixed line home broadband. 5G FWA is easily connected with just the provision of customer premise equipment, which can be readily self-installed by the user.
RN Electronics provide Radio and EMC testing of next generation wireless systems; this includes mmWave (Millimetre Wave) backhaul connectivity to support 5G small cells and Fixed Wireless Access points, driving the move to millimetre wave bands.
Wireless backhaul uses wireless communications systems to get data from an end user to a node in a major network such as the Internet, whilst 5G small cell technology is used to boost signals in indoor areas, such as shopping centres and offices. This will be vital for in-building coverage as millimetre wave signals (the high standard of 5G connectivity) doesn't travel very far, and can’t penetrate walls.
