Regulations published allow certain devices to operate in the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands on a licence-exempt basis

Ofcom has today published regulations that allow certain devices to operate in the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands on a licence-exempt basis.

Today’s document makes two sets of regulations: the Wireless Telegraphy (Mobile Satellite System Equipment) (Exemption) Regulations 2016; and the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2016.

These enable the use of ‘user terminals’ – mobile and satellite phones, for example – on a licence-exempt basis within the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands. Read more here.
